The Goodman Theatre is Chicago's oldest and largest professional theatre. Their newly constructed facility, opened in November, 2000, provides a world-class venue for live theatre.

The production communications system is centered around a Clear-Com Matrix Plus digital intercom system, feeding ICS-92 digital intercom stations for stage managers and 4-channel Clear-Com party-line intercoms in each of the two theatres. Use of the digital matrix allows simultaneous productions to take place. Common circuits, such as dressing rooms, can be assigned as needed.

Custom wall plates throughout both theatres allow staff to access any of four intercom channels. Unique to this installation, the matrix system also controls all of the cue lights. An XPL expansion panel connected to an ICS intercom station triggers a set of relays connected to the cue system. Thus from one operating position and via one system, the stage manager is able to deliver both verbal and visual messages to the production staff and talent.
Auerbach + Associates were the sound, video, and communication system designers for the project. They were assisted by David Naunton (Goodman Theatre) and Ed Fitzgerald (Clear-Com). Installation was by RC Communications of Chicago.
