Clear-Com^® Provides First Eclipse Based Solution
for RTP Studios

RTP, the main Public Television and Radio Broadcaster in Portugal, have chosen
Clear-Com®, a Vitec Group brand and global leaders of innovative intercom solutions, to provide a new digital wireless flexible communications system capable of serving four studios and video editing suites.

The installation is Portugal’s first Clear-Com Eclipse Omega based system supported by the new Eclipse V-Series Panels and the Digital Wireless FreeSpeak® 50. Key features of the new V-Series Panels include 10 character display, international character support and a ‘Listen Again’ function that allows the user to literally ‘Listen Again’ to the last 15 seconds of any incoming call. The combined system has provided RTP with a new level of flexibility and mobility for production staff across the site.

“One of our main goals was to have an intercom system that could work across the whole studio complex and would also be able to expand with our growing production needs,” said Miguel Angelo Oliveira, Chief Radio & Television Engineer at RTP.
“All these requirements – but particularly the mobility aspect for Floor Assistants - were solved with the integration of the Clear-Com digital wireless system into the intercom network.”

The new system includes the Eclipse Omega Digital matrix with 96 ports and
20 x Eclipse V-Series Panels, a FreeSpeak network of advanced antennae and
20 programmable digital belt packs (with the capability of expanding with many more). The FreeSpeak active antennae can be placed anywhere around the studio complex, with digital belt pack users moving as required, while still remaining in direct contact
with the Clear-Com Eclipse digital matrix.

The FreeSpeak digital belt pack offers a high level of functionality including caller privacy through point-to-point calls. The digital transmission is clearer than analogue systems reducing unwanted noise and fatigue for the user. Stylish and lightweight, the belt pack has a tough, high impact weather proof casing with up to 12hours battery life. This makes it ideal for long shifts in the studio.
